Decellularized Tendon Extracellular Matrix—A Valuable Approach for Tendon Reconstruction?
Tendon healing is generally a time-consuming process and often leads to a functionally altered reparative tissue. Using degradable scaffolds for tendon reconstruction still remains a compromise in view of the required high mechanical strength of tendons. Regenerative approaches based on natural decellularized allo- or xenogenic tendon extracellular matrix (ECM) have recently started to attract ...
متن کاملMolecular interactions in extracellular matrix of tendon.
Tendon is a poorly vascularized and highly specialized connective tissue containing few scattered cells that play an important role in the musculoskeletal apparatus by resisting mechanical stress. Because of the slow rate of the metabolism of its molecular components, the tendon gradually loses its mechanical properties and may rupture upon an array of physical activities. In this report, we di...
متن کاملSustained expression of proteoglycans and collagen type III/type I ratio in a calcified tendinopathy model.
OBJECTIVES Alteration in the composition of extracellular matrix has been suggested as the major factor for the development of tendinopathy and calcified tendinopathy, which has poorer clinical manifestation. This study investigated the changes of major proteoglycans and collagens in a calcified tendinopathy model and correlated the expression with the acquisition of chondrocyte phenotype, ecto...
متن کاملFamilial ectopic ossification.
We report a family with dominantly inherited ectopic ossification. It is characterised by childhood onset of multifocal subcutaneous ossifications (primary osteoma cutis), which are of trivial clinical significance. One family member had extensive ectopic ossification involving one limb. We speculate that this may reflect somatic mutation having caused conversion to homozygosity.

A significant number and variety of disorders cause extraskeletal deposition of calcium and phosphate (Table 1). In some, mineral is precipitated as amorphous calcium phosphate or as crystals of hydroxyapatite; in others, osseous tissue is formed. The pathogenesis of ectopic mineralization is generally attributed to one of three mechanisms (Table 1). First, a supranormal “calcium-phosphate solu...
